Exceptional Circumstances

Ex-FIFA vice president David Will believes that the Old Firm move into the English league would not be sanctioned except under "exceptional circumstances".

He believes that it would set a dangerous precedent which would see "the big Belgian clubs trying to get in the Dutch league, the Dutch ones trying to get in the Bundesliga".

I think he has a point. FIFA will not support this plan.

If they did, though, what would those exceptional circumstances be? Might it be that Scotland is technically no more than a region of the United Kingdom. This is a sad, but true, fact. It would certainly strengthen any case for a single British football team.

Independence anyone?

  1. You're looking at all the negatives here man. What about the positives?

Sellick were the first British club to win the European Cup. If this move went ahead they could potentially [*] be the first club to win the European Cup for two different countries - once for Scotland and once for England.

And wouldn't that be just swell?

If Cardiff can be in the Premiership then why not Celtic. In fact you could bring Linfield in too and you'd have a great wee British Isles league. Honestly, what's not to like?

And if it all went horribly wrong, some twat could simply buy the club and move it a few hundred miles down the road. Let's hear it for the MK Tims!

[*] "potentially" - fact is that Sellick would struggle to escape from a second premiership tier, and even if they did, a once every three year Europa League spot is as much as they'd erm... muster. The lack of a guaranteed entry to the Champs League qualifying round is the REAL reason why Sellick fans don't like this proposal. Everything else is a smokescreen.
